M. Blanche Adams and M. Frances Adams Scholarship (Undergraduate: Academic Year)

Number Awarded - approx. 10
Minimum Amount - $600 - $1,000, based on merit and financial need

Criteria - Applicants must be Biology/Zoology majors, who will be returning to OU for at least one more year, and show high academic achievement. In addition, applicants must have earned a GPA of 3.5 or above and show proficiency in written communication. Awards are based on merit, with additional consideration given to financial need. Short statements about the student's career goals, reason for choice of major, (list of honors and awards, and list of extracurriculur activities - please include in resume), are required. Students may apply for both an academic year and a summer research Adams Scholarship and can receive up to three years of academic year scholarship support (students must reapply for subsequent years).

M. Blanche Adams and M. Frances Adams Scholarship (Undergraduate: Summer Research)

Number Awarded - 1 to 10
Minimum Amount - $2,500, based on merit

Criteria - Applicants must be Biology/Zoology majors enrolled in Honors and Independent study research with a faculty member for the upcoming summer session. In addition, applicants must have earned a GPA of 3.5 or above, show proficiency in written communication, and demonstrate high academic achievement. Awards are based on merit. One letter of recommendation from the faculty member who will supervise the research is required. The application must include a research plan, not to exceed 3 pages, that summarizes the goals of the study, the hypothesis (or hypotheses) that is being tested, preliminary research experience, if any, and the experimental or field work that is planned. Short statements about the student's career goals, reason for choice of major, (list of honors and awards, and list of extracurricular activities - please include in resume), are also required. Students may apply for both an academic year and a summer research Adams Scholarship.

M. Blanche Adams and M. Frances Adams Scholarship (Graduate: Academic Year)

Minimum Award - $600 - $1,000, based on merit and financial need

Criteria - Applicants must be graduate students in the Department of Biology/Zoology.  A curriculum vitae is required. Awards are based on merit, with additional consideration given to financial need. The application must include a statement, not to exceed 1 page (12 pt. font), with A) description of career goals, and B) description of what student considers to be principal accomplishments so far in pursuit of graduate educational goals. This can include progress in research, attendance or presentations at meetings, publications, special courses, and participation in other educational experiences. Students must also submit a research plan for the coming summer and academic year, regardless of the type of Adams scholarship for which the student is applying (maximum of 3 pages in 12 pt. font), including any figures, tables, and literature citations). Previous Adams Scholarship recipients must include a brief (1 page) progress report for the most recent Adams Scholarship award describing that research activity and how the funding was used (must include the date and type - summer or academic year - of award). Students may apply for both an academic year and a summer research Adams Scholarship. The academic year scholarship will be awarded for a one-year period with no limit to the number of times a student, making satisfactory progress, can apply.
