Science, the Public, and Popular Culture in the Modern Era

(Professors Hale, Pandora and Weldon)

Research in the modern period on questions related to science and popular culture, science and the public, and popularization encompass the British and U.S. contexts (both separately and comparatively), and topics from the fields of astronomy, anthropology, biology, natural history, psychology and sociology. In addition, other areas of focus by faculty include various popular genres such as science fiction; interdisciplinary issues such as childhood and science; and analysis of themes in mass media – periodicals, books, television, and film.
